IntoDNS blog is back

Adrian Andreias | Friday, October 17th, 2008

Hello folks,

We’re back with the blog!
We know the blog link has not been working in the last months, we know that the feedback link wasn’t working, we know that there are features that admin folks need and expect.

But here’s the deal: IntoDNS is our passion project. Passion leads to great projects, but sometimes (read “always”) the MUST DO tasks (read customers :P ) get in the way of passion projects and tasks. But I’m sure you already knew and been living that.

We’ve been reading a lot of concerns about IntoDNS becoming a paid site, just like other similar tools (*cough* dnsr… something… *cough*). It’s something you shouldn’t worry about. As stated in some earlier posts (that you couldn’t read anyway due to the blog being down :P ), IntoDNS will continue to remain free as long as we can afford to host it (and as a hosting & web development company I don’t see how we won’t afford that in the following hundred years :P ).

We have a lot of plans for IntoDNS, and so few hours to spare in our schedules. I can only promise you that IntoDNS will continue to be free. I can also promise you that we will _try_ to add the needed and asked features.
And one more thing, thank you for using it, thank you for spreading the word and thank you to all those world-wide guys that sent us feedback and reported bugs. Keep them coming! And if you want to help: just spread the word, spread your love!

Yours,

Cristian Tomoiaga, IntoDNS brain, admin, root and knowledge container (and not to mention forest administrator),
Adi Andreias post author and minor IntoDNS features implementer,
from Elvsoft, the authors of IntoDNS

This site has been a life saver for me trying to set up a VPS for the first time and dealing with DNS and nameservers, what a great product for newbies like me. Thanks a million

I really appreciate intodns, it’s been a life saver and a good teacher a fair few times!

You should put a few ads on the front page to help keep it free in the long term and get some well deserved beers paid for! Try buysellads.com, it’s an effective way to publish ads and you probably will get included in the beta programme.

Daniel, thanks for your thoughts.
We’ll probably try to monetize IntoDns someday.

It’s not a priority right now, since we prefer clean and fast pages to earning a few bucks.

IntoDns will remain free in the long run.

You guys have made an incredible tool. Thanks!

Is there a way you could add support for checking SPF records (TXT) for domains? I find myself doing that frequently, too…

SPF check has a high place in the TODO list. But can’t give you an exact estimate for release. Maybe we’ll try an IntoDNS sprint this year and release some new features.

A few suggestions:
Put up a feature list or bug list where people can submit ideas and/or see progress. (Maybe like a tiny version of Ubuntu Brainstorm.)

I’m sure the community would have great ideas on improving, and tweaking intodns.

…and maybe a shot in the dark here–but open source it? That’s a way to make sure things stay free.

I love this site… I was wondering if you have considered open sourcing intodns I would be willing to hack on some of the feature request/fix bugs if you decide to open up the code.

p.s the blog is missing the favicon :(

Glad to see that you are hoping to be alive for a long time. For my part, as soon as someone says dns problem in a forum, the first thing I do is point them to a report here :)

Very ‘clean’ web site. Love it. I won’t be renewing my subs from dns****. Thanks a million for the free tool.

Love the site. Use it probably daily. Just wondering, is there any offering of a full HOST A / MX record check? Or is that even possible? I would love to be able to simply review a clients record setup on one screen.

Excellent site, I really appreciate the resource. We’ve been loking for something good ever since our other DNS tool site went paid.

Validating SPF and DK records would also be very helpful!

My 2cts: IPv6 DNS validation.

When looking at A records, you only look for a www. A record. You should also be looking for a Blank A record. This will allow for understanding for those that have limited knowledge of DNS. This won’t so a error when there is no www. A record.

A great tool. What about IPv6 support. I’d like to see Glue and NS support for AAAA records, as well as rDNS queries.
